Approximately five years ago, our Dad (and father-in-law) was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. We are running a half marathon on December 11th in his honor and to raise money to help find a cure for Parkinson's. We will share our experiences training for the half marathon, and hopefully meet our goal to raise at least $5,000 towards a cure. Thanks for your support!

Welcome!

Our dad/father-in-law, Jon Mills, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease approximately five years ago.  Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a degenerative neurological disorder that affects millions of people worldwide.  An estimated 50,000 people are diagnosed with PD each year.  There is currently no known cause of the disease or cure for the disease.

In an effort to support a cause we care deeply about, and raise money to help find a cure, we are taking a giant leap of faith in ourselves and all of you.  Over the next three months we will be training to run the Pomona half marathon on December 11th, 2011.  To say we aren’t runners would be an understatement!  We have taken on such a huge goal for a few reasons.  Research has shown that one of the most affective ways to keep PD at bay is through exercise.   So we figure running is a great way to show our support for Parkinson’s patients who need to work out for their well-being.  We also wanted to set a goal that we could feel was worthy of a fund-raising effort.

We have teamed up with Team Parkinson, a local Southern California non-profit organization that raises money towards finding a cure for PD through people like us running marathons, half marathons, triathlons, etc.  Team Parkinson is affiliated with The Parkinson Alliance; donations will go towards grants that fund PD research.  You can check out their website at: http://www.team-parkinson.org/index.php.

Our donation page is: ________________.  We have set a goal of raising $5000.  Please check out our page – even a $1 donation would help us towards our goal, no amount is too small!!

We also decided that since this is such a huge challenge for all of us that we would blog about our experience training for the half marathon.  Follow us as here we gear up for the big day!

We are also proud to support our Dad’s book that is coming out this November.  The Ronnie Gene is a murder mystery featuring a Parkinsons patient as one of the main characters.  Anyone who donates $250 or more will receive a personalized signed copy of the book from Jon Mills himself.  We will also have a competition for the half marathon – whoever can guess our individual race times will also win a personalized signed copy of The Ronnie Gene.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Love,
